The Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race was held in the Geelong, Bellarine Peninsula and Surf Coast regions over three days from 27-29 January 2023. Returning to Australia after a two year hiatus due to COVID, the event offered a festival atmosphere with mass crowds and thrilling finishes.
SPARK EVENT GROUP (Spark) were proud to be a part of the large scale event, assisting with event planning and delivery, through to management and staffing. With a setup team working in the week leading into the event, over 250 of the Spark workforce were onsite over the three event days, with roles varying from course marshals and patron services to operations and management.
With the support of the Victorian State Government, the event welcomed more than 100,000 spectators and cycling fans to the region across the three days.
Renee Narcis-Mackenzie, Project Manager, Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race from Visit Victoria says “the enormity of the work that was undertaken was incredible and I don’t think anyone from the outside would have ever known how quickly it all came together”.
With extreme weather conditions and many road blocks to set up and manage, the Spark workforce included local volunteers which we would like to thank for giving up their time. Just some of the comments from their experience on the ground are:
“Thanks for running such a great event. We loved being part of it.”
“We (Torquay Rotary Club) had a wonderful time and will certainly be in it next year.”
“Thanks for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this awesome event. It surely was a great experience.”
“Well done to you and the team for the job of pulling this together.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere from the crowds and how they engaged not only with us but the people around them as well. Looking forward to next year.
